Christopher Dotson has been involved in the visual arts for over 14 years, and uses a wide variety of mediums.  This includes Watercolor, Pen and Ink, Graphite, Charcoal, Oil paint, Acrylic paint, and ceramics.
His work ranges from visual realism to imagined realism.  While the titles of his works may give a hint as to what may have inspired them, the meanings are for the viewer to interpret.
” I look for something beyond the representation of a subject.  For example, while working with a still life, I break it down into it’s simplest shapes, and most basic colors.  Attention is given only to each shape’s interaction with surrounding shapes, and it’s color in relation to the other colors within the image.  I look for the pattern. This provides me with a sense of order, and a defining point for the image.
Some of my latest work uses pure pattern as the starting point.  An image is then incorporated, and sometimes hidden within the pattern. This is a natural augmentation of my work with realism.  Therefore my work can be seen as having two separate facets; the real, and the abstract.  But for me, both are intertwined.”
