Refuge

Refuge

Refuge, oil on canvas 66″ x 48″

The margin of life seems so slim.

Near the end of painting this I read a very sad  story about a man who lost his wife and children. They drowned when the boat that they were on capsized at night in the Mediterranean Sea. They were seeking refuge, fleeing the violence in Syria. I can’t imagine his pain. And I can’t say if that affected the outcome of this painting. But the story made me really question some illusions that I have had about life. Seeing isn’t only done with the eyes.
